{"id":1291,"date":"2014-04-09T20:10:56","date_gmt":"2014-04-10T02:10:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/?p=1291"},"modified":"2014-04-09T20:10:56","modified_gmt":"2014-04-10T02:10:56","slug":"old-fort-bliss-barracks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/?p=1291","title":{"rendered":"Old Fort Bliss Barracks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Heading up Fred Wilson Boulevard, there&#8217;s an entrance into Fort Bliss for William Beaumont Army Medical Center. \u00a0What&#8217;s interesting is a large collection of largely unused old barracks and a lone empty chapel, baking in the west Texas sun.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7409\/13656356953_920336dfe8_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first 3 easily accessible buildings are right across from a parking lot, making it easy to check out. \u00a0Given that this is an active part of base, I heeded all trespass warnings and didn&#8217;t check to see if any of the buildings were open. \u00a0Plus who knows why these aren&#8217;t in use, there&#8217;s probably all sorts of contaminants like lead or asbestos inside. \u00a0At the very least there were large piles of nasty pigeon poop all over the place, so I stuck to the dirt.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7269\/13656813314_8e272f75d4.jpg\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 3 barrack buildings were all the same construction in various states of disrepair. \u00a0It&#8217;s too bad they can&#8217;t be used for some more interesting purpose. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Donald_Judd\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Judd&#8217;s<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/chinati.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chinati <\/a>comes to mind.
