{"id":1300,"date":"2014-04-28T10:22:08","date_gmt":"2014-04-28T16:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/?p=1300"},"modified":"2014-05-09T09:17:24","modified_gmt":"2014-05-09T15:17:24","slug":"inside-the-roberts-banner-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/?p=1300","title":{"rendered":"Inside the Roberts-Banner Building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the more unique buildings sitting off of San Jacinto Plaza is the Roberts-Banner building. \u00a0I&#8217;ve checked it out a few times recently and used to frequent it for lunch\u00a0in my runner\/courier days, when it had a McDonalds.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7193\/14025517134_6a4608a22e_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was built in 1910 and is one of the better surviving <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trost_%26_Trost\" target=\"_blank\">Trost<\/a> buildings downtown, though it&#8217;s mostly vacant now. \u00a0There had been a banner advertising its remodel but it&#8217;s either been removed or blown off. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.elpasodevnews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">El Paso Development news<\/a> reports the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elpasodevnews.com\/2012\/04\/city-interested-in-historic-downtown.html\" target=\"_blank\">city&#8217;s interested in<\/a> it, but no firm details.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7118\/14021868822_8db70a2ab4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The owners have the all the doors open, either in a bid to air it out or because the locks don&#8217;t work. \u00a0It adds to the already surreal, frozen in time vibe, the interior has. \u00a0There is one office that still houses a business, G J Jewelry:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7032\/14025689674_aee82f8be4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The small space is packed and looks to have all the necessities for the trade. \u00a0I&#8217;ve only been here on the weekends and haven&#8217;t seen \u00a0anybody inside. The Christmas decorations sort of imply some level of inactivity, but you never know:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5046\/14025233055_4cd3a1653e_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7160\/14025271925_65a531169d.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All of the office spaces are small one or two room affairs still sporting radiators for heat.
