Many if its buildings have remained\u00a0relatively\u00a0unchanged since their initial construction. \u00a0Sure, businesses have come and gone and some new buildings have replaced old\u00a0dilapidated or damaged structures.\u00a0\u00a0For the most part though, we have retained in continual use many of the buildings and homes that date back to the early 1900&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0neighborhoods\u00a0in central El Paso and in the Sunset heights area retain their older character as well. \u00a0As they say, you can&#8217;t stop progress and with construction of the I-10 freeway, it would obliterate a few hundred homes and businesses that ran along its route.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<dl id=\"attachment_420\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 594px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Old_map-El_Paso-1886_detail.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-420\" title=\"Old_map-El_Paso-1886_detail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Old_map-El_Paso-1886_detail-1024x617.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Old_map-El_Paso-1886_detail-1024x617.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Old_map-El_Paso-1886_detail-300x181.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Old_map-El_Paso-1886_detail-497x300.jpg 497w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\">Downtown El Paso before I-10<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">On both sides of Prospect St. were it croses over the freeway there are 2 distinct areas were a few\u00a0remnants of these buildings once sat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ie=UTF8&amp;hq=&amp;hnear=El+Paso,+Texas&amp;ll=31.760429,-106.494443&amp;spn=0.003936,0.006968&amp;t=h&amp;z=18&amp;output=embed\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"425\" height=\"350\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<small><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-align: left;\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ie=UTF8&amp;hq=&amp;hnear=El+Paso,+Texas&amp;ll=31.760429,-106.494443&amp;spn=0.003936,0.006968&amp;t=h&amp;z=18&amp;source=embed\">View Larger Map<\/a><\/small><\/p>\n<p>Parking up on the north side of prospect, you find the first set of stairs to nowhere:<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<dl id=\"\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 170px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/juanoxido\/5977900617\/in\/set-72157627286423978\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" title=\"Lost Prospect\" src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6127\/5977900617_d732ba6b87_m.jpg\" alt=\"Lost Prospect\" width=\"160\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\">Lost Prospect<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>What&#8217;s\u00a0fascinating is that in addition to the stairs the foundations\u00a0are\u00a0largely\u00a0intact. \u00a0The walls may be long gone but somebody still resides here:<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<dl id=\"\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 510px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/juanoxido\/5978491500\/in\/set-72157627286423978\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" title=\"Shirt Curtains\" src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6141\/5978491500_476c20d580.jpg\" alt=\"Shirt Curtains\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\">Shirt Curtains<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>On the south end of Prospect St. there is a larger area that was once\u00a0apartments. There may be some other reason that they are no longer standing as they seem to be situated closer to the historic San\u00a0Francisco\u00a0neighborhood and out of the range of the freeway.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<dl id=\"\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 510px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/juanoxido\/5978039369\/in\/set-72157627286423978\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Let Love Enter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6021\/5978039369_29b6d0f530.jpg\" alt=\"Let Love Enter\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\">Let Love Enter<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>This plat of land had more of an\u00a0archaeological dig feel to it.
