{"id":673,"date":"2011-11-01T09:47:36","date_gmt":"2011-11-01T15:47:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/?p=673"},"modified":"2012-01-01T14:42:10","modified_gmt":"2012-01-01T21:42:10","slug":"southwestern-portland-cement-pt-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/?p=673","title":{"rendered":"Southwestern Portland Cement (Pt 6)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Into to the Dark<\/h1>\n<p>I finally had the\u00a0opportunity to venture into the old main office building at the Southwestern Portland Cement Plant. \u00a0I didn&#8217;t want to wander around in there alone so I asked a friend of mine to go with me. \u00a0His only request was that we not get arrested. In the picture below the stairs are right behind the bush. The stairs to the right, lead up to a door that is locked.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<dl class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 510px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/juanoxido\/5727496633\/in\/set-72157626736590534\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Its behind the bush!\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5081\/5727496633_3339321102.jpg\" alt=\"v\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The lower door that has been pried away, exposing a large room\u00a0that has a bunch of cabnets and work surfaces. \u00a0It looks like some sort of testing area where they may have preformed quality control on their products.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<dl id=\"\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 510px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/juanoxido\/5858360172\/in\/set-72157627016265326\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Cabinets\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2684\/5858360172_b520426631.jpg\" alt=\"Cabinets\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\">Cabinet work area<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>To the right is another room that has a narrow set of stairs that lead up to a mid level. \u00a0That is the darkest, most\u00a0claustrophobic part but once you get to the top, light from the second story windows fill the area. A long narrow hallway runs its length. \u00a0Offices hang off to each side letting light in but the low ceiling and cinder block walls negate any openness the light provides.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<dl id=\"\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 510px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/juanoxido\/6287159490\/in\/set-72157627992170720\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Long Hall\" src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6224\/6287159490_8057b4c356.jpg\" alt=\"Long Hall\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\">The Long Hall<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>the place is gutted with little\u00a0reminiscent of previous office activity. \u00a0The offices had wood\u00a0paneling\u00a0which has been removed in large sections and in any area where copper pipes may have been, holes have been punched in the walls to remove it. Pulverizer Chipmonk? Who knows what that was but it sounds like a great band name. \u00a0Once out, we walked around a bit more but time soon found us.
