The\u00a0facility was established to preserve the history of ranching, pioneer life and the development of the livestock industry in North America. They have large collection of original ranching buildings on the grounds that they have restored.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<dl id=\"\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 510px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/juanoxido\/6995474073\/in\/photostream\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-caption-dd\">Barton House<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>The building collection is pretty impressive, they have everything from pioneer dugouts to the fancy\u00a0Victorian\u00a0house above. \u00a0There&#8217;s also a steam engine with caboose, a small train depot, windmills and\u00a0several\u00a0barns. \u00a0The walk doesn&#8217;t take to long and by far the boys were most interested in the steam engine.<\/p>\n<p>We headed out for lunch and after getting a quick bite to eat stumbled upon some carved wooded\u00a0sculptures\u00a0along 98st. \u00a0It looks like at one time these were trees that lined the property but this crafty individual chopped them down and carved them up into what you see below.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<dl id=\"\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 510px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/juanoxido\/6995610083\/in\/photostream\/\"><img only cut down some very large trees on his property but to then\u00a0transform\u00a0them into folksy works of art. \u00a0The most impressive was the attacking eagle, with its wings outstretch and claws out, it makes the best use of the previous trees shape.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<dl id=\"\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: class=\"wp-caption-dd\">Ka-Kaw!<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>Once we wrapped up there we dropped the boys off at their cousin&#8217;s so they could go golfing with their Uncle and Grandpa. \u00a0Virg and I headed off to the depot district to check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buddyhollycenter.org\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Buddy Holly\u00a0Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<dl id=\"\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 510px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a Center<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>The center sits in a refurbished train depot on the edge of the depot district. \u00a0The Buddy Holly sculpture that used to reside around 8th street has been relocated\u00a0across\u00a0the street in a park that has a local &#8220;Walk of fame&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<dl id=\"\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 510px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/juanoxido\/6849494338\/in\/photostream\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Fame<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>We did briefly tour the\u00a0museum\u00a0whose admission will also get you into the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.silentwingsmuseum.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Silent Wings Museum<\/a>, though we didn&#8217;t stop there. \u00a0That was enough sight seeing for the day so we headed down the street to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.triplejchophouseandbrewco.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">JJJ Chophouse<\/a>\u00a0and then on to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/crickets-grill-and-draft-house-lubbock\" target=\"_blank\">Crickets Grill<\/a> for some frosty
