{"id":952,"date":"2012-07-17T15:34:26","date_gmt":"2012-07-17T21:34:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/?p=952"},"modified":"2012-07-17T15:34:26","modified_gmt":"2012-07-17T21:34:26","slug":"getting-a-little-perspective","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/?p=952","title":{"rendered":"Getting a Little Perspective"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I near the\u00a0completion\u00a0of the <a title=\"Sunset Grocery Painting (update 5)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/?p=946\">Sunset Grocery Building<\/a>, I have started to kick around some other ideas for my next painting. \u00a0Some places I&#8217;ve already visited have given me lots of material like the <a title=\"Smelter Cemetery in HDR\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/?p=938\">Smelter Cemetery<\/a> and the <a title=\"Southwestern Portland Cement in HDR\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/?p=941\">SPC Plant<\/a>. \u00a0Those are pretty grand in scale and may result in some sort of a series. For my next painting I wanted to try something a little smaller in scale so I headed back downtown and scouted around. \u00a0Instead of wandering all over the place like I normally, do I focused on the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plaza_Hotel_(El_Paso,_Texas)\" target=\"_blank\">Plaza Hotel<\/a> and surrounding area.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7118\/7592675230_7489c9705c_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"426\" height=\"640\" \/>There was some construction going inside, no doubt in preparation for making it<a href=\"http:\/\/www.elpasotimes.com\/news\/ci_21079429\/hotel-tax-help-pay-el-paso-ballpark-fuels-debate?source=pkg\" target=\"_blank\"> usable again<\/a>\u00a0for some future tenants. \u00a0Personally, I would rather see the city use the Blue Flame building if they raze the\u00a0current\u00a0city hall to build a ballpark. \u00a0The Plaza would be better suited as a hotel given its proximity to the the Arts district. \u00a0Maybe it would force the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caminoreal.com\/english\/Micrositio\/index.php?id=27\" target=\"_blank\">Camino Real<\/a>,\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0next door, to spruce up its aging property.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7248\/7592914976_7a3523eeef_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This part of downtown is my favorite. The majority of the buildings around here are older and part of the national historic\u00a0registry. \u00a0There are some art deco-ish relics as well, namely the Kress Building and the American Furniture sign.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7118\/7592866842_2544a183f6_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"426\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve used this area before for inspiration, in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/?attachment_id=22\" target=\"_blank\">Plaza Monk<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rust2.com\/?attachment_id=24\" target=\"_blank\">American Furniture<\/a> paintings, so I guess I risk beating a dead horse. \u00a0There is something here though or I\u00a0wouldn&#8217;t\u00a0keep\u00a0coming\u00a0back.
